Bad Homburg Open: Paolini makes semi-finals

Italian Jasmine Paolini, the second seed, moved into the semi-finals of the Bad Homburg Open by winning against Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia 7-5, 7-5 at the Bad Homburg vor der Höhe on Thursday.
Paolini, ranked No 4, will play the winner of the match between Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, the No 8 seed, and Pole Iga Swiatek, the No 4 seed, next.
The Italian defeated Canadian Leylah Fernandez (7-6 (8), 7-6 (6)) ahead of her victory.
In the previous rounds of the Bad Homburg tournament, Haddad Maia, ranked No 21, won against American lucky loser Ashlyn Krueger (6-1, 6-4) and edged out Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, the No 7 seed (3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7)).
