Slovenian Tamara Zidansek, the No 5 seed, beat Frenchwoman Alize Cornet, the top seed, 7-6 (3), 6-4 to reach the final of the Bari Open at Circolo Tennis Bari on Saturday.
Zidansek, ranked No 118, will play Slovak Rebecca Sramkova next.
The Slovenian won against Latvian Darja Semenistaja (6-1, 2-6, 6-2), Argentinian Maria Lourdes Carle (7-6 (4), 6-2) and Pole qualifier Katarzyna Kawa (6-2, 6-4) in the previous rounds of the Puglia Open.
Earlier in the tournament, Cornet, ranked No 79, defeated Hungarian Reka Luca Jani (7-5, 6-4), Greek Valentini Grammatikopoulou (4-6, 6-4, 7-5) and Italian Jennifer Ruggeri (6-2, 6-4).
