Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No 3 seed, reached the quarter-finals of the Berlin Open by winning against Australian qualifier Jaimee Fourlis 6-3, 6-2 at Rot-Weiss Tennis Club on Wednesday afternoon.

Garcia, ranked No 4, will play the winner of the match between Argentinian Nadia Podoroska and Czech Petra Kvitova, the No 7 seed, next.

In the previous round of the Berlin tournament, the Frenchwoman beat German wildcard Sabine Lisicki (7-6 (2), 6-3).

Fourlis, ranked No 218, benefited from the abandonment of Chinese qualifier Xinyu Wang (3-6, 7-5) in the previous round of the Berlin tournament.
