Berlin Open: Sakkari streak continues, surges to semi-final spot

Greece’s Maria Sakkari, the second seed, won against Russian Daria Kasatkina, the No 6 seed, 6-0, 6-3 to reach the semi-finals of the Berlin Open at Rot-Weiss Tennis Club on Friday.

Sakkari, ranked No 6, will face the winner of the match between Swiss Belinda Bencic, the No 8 seed, and Russian Veronika Kudermetova next.

In the previous rounds, the Greek defeated French qualifier Leolia Jeanjean (6-3, 6-2) and Australian qualifier Daria Saville (6-1, 7-5).

Kasatkina, ranked No 12, beat Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina (5-7, 6-3, 6-1) and Ekaterina Alexandrova (5-7, 6-1, 6-1) earlier in the tournament.
