Birmingham Classic: Fruhvirtova books spot in quarter-finals

Czech Linda Fruhvirtova moved into the last eight of the Birmingham Classic by beating American Bernarda Pera, the No 6 seed, 6-1, 7-6 (3) at Edgbaston Priory Club on Wednesday afternoon.
Fruhvirtova, ranked No 57, will face the winner of the match between top seed Barbora Krejcikova and qualifier Tereza Martincova next.
The 18-year-old Czech won against Ukrainian wildcard Elina Svitolina (6-2, 6-0) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round of the Birmingham tournament, Pera, ranked No 27, defeated Czech Marie Bouzkova (6-4, 7-6 (3)).
