Brisbane: Sabalenka wins back to back trophy

Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the top seed, beat Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk, the No 16 seed, 6-4, 6-3 to win the Brisbane International presented by ANZ tournament on Sunday.
This is Sabalenka’s 22th title, a back to back titles in Brisbane, were she has won 18 matches on 19 played in four participations. The world No.1 has won 38 of her last 40 matches in Australia… She was totally dominant this week, defeating Czech Karolina Muchova, the No 11 seed (6-3, 6-4), American Madison Keys, the No 5 seed (6-3, 6-3), Romanian Sorana Cirstea (6-3, 6-3) and Spaniard Cristina Bucsa (6-0, 6-1).
“It’s super special, she said after the match. I’m happy to hold this trophy, happy to start this season on a very high note and with the level I was able to show throughout this week. Can’t complain.”
Kostyuk, ranked No 26, beat 3 top 10 players in a row (Anisimova, Andreeva, Pegula) to reach her first final since 2024. She’ll also be back in the top 20 next week.
Aryna Sabalenka extended her career head-to-head dominance over Marta Kostyuk to 5-0. The world No. 1 has now won all 10 sets contested against the Ukrainian since their initial meeting in 2022, a streak spanning professional matches on both hard and clay courts.
