Brisbane: Samsonova moves into quarter-finals

Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the No 10 seed, reached the last 8 of the Brisbane International presented by ANZ by defeating Belarusian qualifier Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-4, 6-4 on Thursday.

Samsonova, ranked No 17, will play the winner of the match between Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska and American Jessica Pegula, the No 4 seed, next.

The Russian won against Australian wildcard Emerson Jones (6-4, 6-1) in the previous round.
