Budapest Open: Rus makes quarter-finals

Arantxa Rus edged out Natalia Szabanin 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 on Wednesday afternoon. She’ll play German qualifier Tamara Korpatsch in the next round

Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus advanced to the quarter-finals of the Budapest Open by edging out Hungarian wildcard Natalia Szabanin 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 at Római Tennis Academy on Wednesday afternoon.

Rus, ranked No 101, will play German qualifier Tamara Korpatsch next.

The Dutchwoman beat Brazilian Laura Pigossi (6-2, 6-2) in the previous round.

In the first round, Szabanin, ranked No 287, won against No 8 seed Panna Udvardy (6-4, 6-1).
