Ashlyn Krueger edged out No 6 seed Sofia Kenin 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 to move into the quarter-finals of the Catalonia Open on Thursday.
Krueger, ranked No 70, will play second seed Katerina Siniakova next.
Ashlyn Krueger beat Greek qualifier Martha Matoula (6-2, 6-1) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round, Kenin, ranked No 60, edged out Spanish wildcard Irene Burillo Escorihuela (2-6, 6-4, 6-4).
