Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu, the No 15 seed, moved into the last 16 of the Charleston Open by defeating American wildcard Sofia Kenin 6-1, 6-4 at the Family Circle Tennis Center on Wednesday evening.

Begu, ranked No 37, will face American Jessica Pegula, the top seed, next.

Ahead of her victory, the Romanian won against Hungarian Dalma Galfi (6-1, 7-5).

Kenin, ranked No 142, won against Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich (6-1, 6-7 (5), 6-1) in the previous round of the Charleston tournament.
