Charleston Open: Kudermetova advances to quarter-finals

Russian Veronika Kudermetova, the No 9 seed, moved into the last eight of the Charleston Open by winning against Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 5 seed, 7-5, 6-1 at the Family Circle Tennis Center on Thursday night.

Kudermetova, ranked No 19, will face the winner of the match between Australian lucky loser Astra Sharma and Greek Maria Sakkari, the No 3 seed, next.

The Russian defeated American wildcard Shelby Rogers (7-6 (5), 6-4) in the previous round of the Charleston tournament.

In the second round of the Charleston tournament, Haddad Maia, ranked No 13, beat American Caroline Dolehide (6-2, 7-5).
