Chicago Women’s Open: Liu into final after Bucsa retires early in first set

American Claire Liu moved into the final of the Chicago Women’s Open after an early retirement from Spaniard Cristina Bucsa on Friday afternoon.
Liu, ranked No 81, led 2-1 when Bucsa, ranked No 70, pulled out due to injury.
The American will face the winner of the match between Italian Lucia Bronzetti, the No 5 seed, and Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova next.
Claire Liu defeated Romanian Irina Fetecau (6-1, 6-4), Australian qualifier Storm Hunter (6-0, 6-4) and Spaniard Rebeka Masarova, the No 6 seed (7-5, 5-7, 7-6 (3)) in the previous rounds.
Earlier in the tournament, the Spaniard won against American wildcard Kolie Allen (6-0, 6-2), American wildcard Varvara Lepchenko (W/O) and Swede Rebecca Peterson (3-6, 6-4, 6-4).
