China Open: Townsend moves into second round, faces Boulter next

American Taylor Townsend advanced to the second round of the China Open by winning against Italian Martina Trevisan 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 at the National Tennis Center in Beijing on Wednesday.

The American improved to 2-1 lifetime against Trevsian, who she also beat in the first round of the US Open last year. She has now won 11 of her last 14 matches on the tour, including a quarter-final appearance in Canada and a fourth-round finish in Cincinnait, both of which she came through the qualifying draw.

Townsend, ranked No 52, will face No 26 seed Katie Boulter next.
