Slovenia’s Polona Hercog defeated Egyptian wildcard Mayar Sherif 7-6 (11), 4-6, 6-1 to reach the quarter-finals of the Colina Open at the Club Deportivo Universidad Catolica on Thursday.
Hercog, ranked No 332, will play No 5 seed Diane Parry next.
The Slovenian won against Romanian Miriam Bulgaru (6-4, 4-6, 6-2) ahead of her win today.
In the previous round of the Chilean tournament, Sherif, ranked No 59, beat Argentinian Julia Riera (6-2, 6-4).
