Defending Eastbourne champion Ostapenko advances to final, gets past Giorgi

Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the No 8 seed, advanced to the final of the Eastbourne International by winning against Italian Camila Giorgi, the No 12 seed, 6-2, 6-2 at Devonshire Park Lawn Club on Friday afternoon.

Ostapenko, ranked No 14, will face Czech Petra Kvitova, the No 14 seed, next.

The Latvian beat Australian Ajla Tomljanovic (6-4, 6-4), American Madison Keys, the No 11 seed (6-3 ret.) and Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina (6-3, 6-2) earlier in the tournament.

In the previous rounds, Giorgi, ranked No 26, won against Canadian lucky loser Rebecca Marino (7-5, 6-4), Spaniard Garbine Muguruza, the No 5 seed (7-5, 6-3) and Bulgarian lucky loser Viktoriya Tomova (6-2, 6-1).
