Romanian Sorana Cirstea reached the second round of the Dubai Duty Free Championships by edging out Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 11 seed, 4-6, 7-6 (7), 7-5 at The Aviation Club Tennis Centre on Monday.
Cirstea, ranked No 70, will play the winner of the match between Czech Karolina Muchova and American Bernarda Pera next.
