Dubai Open: Paolini upsets Sakkari to make last eight

Italy’s Jasmine Paolini moved into the last eight of the Dubai Open by upsetting Greek Maria Sakkari, the No 8 seed, 6-4, 6-2 at The Aviation Club Tennis Centre on Wednesday.
Paolini, ranked No 26 in the world, will play the winner of the match between Pole qualifier Magdalena Frech and Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the No 4 seed, next.
The Italian defeated Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 11 seed (4-6, 6-4, 6-0) and Canadian Leylah Fernandez (6-3, 6-4) ahead of her win today.
Earlier in the week, Sakkari, ranked No 11, won against American Emma Navarro (6-2, 6-4).
