Frenchwoman Carole Monnet moved into the second round of the Florianopolis Open by beating Brazilian wildcard Carolina M. Alves 6-1, 6-2 on Monday evening.
Monnet, ranked No 181, will play Russian Diana Shnaider, the second seed, next.
