Japanese Nao Hibino, the No 4 seed, won against Russian qualifier Valeria Savinykh 7-5, 6-2 to advance to the last 16 of the Golden Gate Open at Stanford on Monday night.
Hibino, ranked No 81, will face Japanese Moyuka Uchijima next.
