Golden Gate Open at Stanford: Rakhimova makes semi-finals

Russian Kamilla Rakhimova, the second seed, reached the semi-finals of the Golden Gate Open at Stanford by edging out Belarusian qualifier Iryna Shymanovich 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 on Thursday evening.
Rakhimova, ranked No 80, will play Yue Yuan next.
In the previous rounds, the 21-year-old Russian defeated wildcard Angelica Blake (7-5, 2-6, 6-1) and American Robin Montgomery (7-5, 6-3).
Shymanovich, ranked No 172, won against Heather Watson (6-2, 6-4) and Montenegrin Danka Kovinic, the No 8 seed (6-4, 6-4) earlier in the tournament.
