Guadalajara Open Akron: Dolehide makes quarter-finals

American Caroline Dolehide reached the quarter-finals of the Guadalajara Open Akron by defeating Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, the No 8 seed, 6-1, 6-2 on Wednesday evening.
The American put forth a dominant performance, winning all but ten points on her serve (25 of 29 on first-serve, 8 of 14 on second-serve) and saving the only break point she faced.
The win marks Dolehide’s first ever top-20 win and fifth career top-50 win.
Dolehide, ranked No 111, will play the winner of the match between Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the top seed, and Italian Martina Trevisan next.
The American edged out Peyton Stearns (6-7 (1), 7-6 (5), 7-6 (2)) and won against lucky loser Sachia Vickery (6-3, 4-6, 6-1) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous round, Alexandrova, ranked No 20, beat Pole Magdalena Frech (7-6 (4), 7-6 (8)).
