No 16 seed Karolina Pliskova won against Japanese qualifier Ena Shibahara 7-5, 6-2 to advance to the second round of the Guadalajara Open in Mexico on Sunday afternoon.
Pliskova, ranked No 34, will play American Hailey Baptiste next.
