Hamburg Open: Pera makes quarter-finals

American Bernarda Pera, the No 3 seed, won against Estonian Kaia Kanepi 7-6 (6), 6-1 to advance to the last 8 of the Hamburg Open at Am Rothenbaum on Tuesday afternoon.
Pera, ranked No 56, will face the winner of the match between Russian Diana Shnaider and Austrian Julia Grabher, the No 5 seed, next.
The American edged out qualifier Zeynep Sonmez (6-2, 1-6, 6-4) in the previous round of the Hamburg tournament.
During the 32 of the Hamburg tournament, Kanepi, ranked No 93, defeated Slovenian qualifier Kaja Juvan (6-1, 6-4).
