Hamburg Open: Seventh seed Rus makes semi-finals

Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus, the No 7 seed, defeated German Eva Lys 6-2, 6-2 to move into the semi-finals of the Hamburg Open at Am Rothenbaum on Thursday afternoon.
Rus, ranked No 60, will face Australian qualifier Daria Saville next.
The Dutchwoman won against Russian Maria Timofeeva (6-2, 4-6, 6-1) and edged out Argentinian Nadia Podoroska (6-3, 3-6, 7-5) in the previous rounds of the Hamburg tournament.
Earlier in the tournament, Lys, ranked No 167, won against Egyptian Mayar Sherif, the second seed (6-1, 6-1) and Hungarian Panna Udvardy (6-4, 6-1).
