Canadian Leylah Fernandez, the No 30 seed, won against American wildcard Emma Navarro 6-2, 6-4 to reach the third round of the Indian Wells at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden on Saturday.
Fernandez, ranked No 49, will play the winner of the match between Hungarian lucky loser Dalma Galfi and Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No 5 seed, next.
In the previous round of the Indian Wells tournament, Navarro, ranked No 128, beat wildcard Catherine McNally (1-6, 6-1, 6-1).
