Indian Wells: Garcia survives Galfi to reach third round, plays Fernandez next

Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No 5 seed, survived a tough battle against Hungarian lucky loser Dalma Galfi before winning in three sets and reaching the third round of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells on Saturday.

Garcia needed two hours and seven minutes for the win and she now advances to a third round clash against former US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez, the No 30 seed.

The win improves Garcia’s record in 2023 to 16 wins out of 22 matches on the tour.

Galfi, ranked No 80 in the world, had defeated former Australian Open runner-up Danielle Collins (6-4, 6-4) in the previous round of the Indian Wells tournament.
