Indian Wells: Putintseva sees off Keys to reach last 16

Kazakh Yulia Putintseva advanced to the last 16 of the Indian Wells by beating American Madison Keys, the No 18 seed, 6-4, 6-1 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden on Sunday evening.

Putintseva, ranked No 79, will face Pole Iga Swiatek, the top seed, next.

The Kazakh won against German Tamara Korpatsch (6-2, 6-3) and Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, the No 15 seed (7-5, 6-1) in the previous rounds of the Indian Wells tournament.

In the previous round of the Indian Wells tournament, Keys, ranked No 20, edged out qualifier Hailey Baptiste (6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (4)).
