World No 1 Iga Swiatek easily defeated Kazakh Yulia Putintseva 6-1, 6-2 to move into the last eight of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells on Tuesday night.

She improves to 3-0 lifetime against Putintseva, winning all of their matches in straight sets. This was also her 28th win in her last 30 matches on the tour.

Swiatek, from Poland, will play former world No 1 and Danish wildcard Caroline Wozniacki next. The two have met only once before with the current world No 1 winning their round of 32 clash in Toronto in 2019 in three sets. That was before the Dane retired from the sport, had two kids and then returned to the tour last summer.

She’s really consistent, solid, and you have to be patient playing against Caroline.

“I know a lot from a fan perspective, because I was watching her when I was younger. She’s really consistent, solid, and you have to be patient playing against Caroline,” Swiatek told the media after her win. “But more tactical stuff, for sure, that my coach is going to prepare for me and we’re going to talk before the match. I honestly didn’t know I was going to play against Caro. I got to know in my postmatch interview. I don’t have anything ready yet, but for sure it’s going to be exciting and it’s going to tough, so I’ll be ready and I’ll do my best.”

In the previous rounds of the tournament, the 22-year-old Pole won against American Danielle Collins (6-3, 6-0) and No 26 seed Linda Noskova (6-4, 6-0).

Putintseva, ranked No 79, won against German Tamara Korpatsch (6-2, 6-3), Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, the No 15 seed (7-5, 6-1) and American Madison Keys, the No 18 seed (6-4, 6-1) earlier in the tournament.
