Chinese Qinwen Zheng, the No 8 seed, beat Serb Olga Danilovic 6-1, 6-4 to reach the third round of the Italian Open at the Foro Italico on Friday.
Zheng, ranked No 8, will face the winner of the match between Pole Magdalena Frech, the No 26 seed, and Belarusian Victoria Azarenka next.
In the previous round of the Rome tournament, Danilovic, ranked No 33, edged out Katerina Siniakova (3-6, 6-4, 6-4).
