World No 3 Ons Jabeur has revealed she underwent a minor surgery and, as a result, has been forced to pull out of this month’s WTA tournaments in Doha and Dubai.

Jabeur made the announcement in a social media post but did not give details as to when the surgery took place or what it was related to.

“In order to take care of my health situation. My medical team have decided that I need to get a minor surgery in order to be able to be back on the courts and perform well,” Jabeur said in her post.

Jabeur, who reached the finals of Wimbledon and the US Open last year, is a big draw in the Middle East and her withdrawal is a big blow to organisers there.

“I will have to retire from Doha and Dubai and this is breaking my heart. I would like to say sorry to all the fans out there in the Middle East that waited for this reunion. I promise I will come back to you stronger and healthy.”

In her most recent tournament appearance. Jabeur was defeated in the second round of the Australian Open in January, going down to Czech left-hander Marketa Vondrousova in three sets.
