Jasmin Open: Burel races into third semi-final of the year

Frenchwoman Clara Burel, the No 8 seed, reached the semi-finals of the Jasmin Open by defeating Italian Lucrezia Stefanini 6-3, 6-1 at the Skanes Family Hotel Monastir on Friday evening.

The win sees Burel, ranked No 74, make her third semi-final of the year. Next up, she’ll play Belgian Elise Mertens, the second seed, who navigated a tricky quarter-final against qualifier Camilla Rosatello earlier in the day.

The 22-year-old Burel won against Spaniard Cristina Bucsa (6-2, 6-2) and edged out Russian wildcard Erika Andreeva (6-0, 5-7, 7-6 (2)) in the previous rounds of the Monastir tournament, while Stefanini, ranked No 125, beat qualifier Camilla Rosatello (5-7, 6-3, 6-1) and Pole wildcard Katarzyna Kawa (6-4, 6-1).
