Qualifier Sonay Kartal won against Japanese Mai Hontama 6-2, 6-2 to reach the last 8 of the Jasmin Open at the Skanes Family Hotel Monastir on Wednesday evening.
Kartal, ranked No 151, will play the winner of the match between Frenchwoman Diane Parry, the No 3 seed, and Ukrainian qualifier Yulia Starodubtseva next.
Ahead of her victory, Sonay Kartal edged out Romanian Jaqueline Cristian, the No 5 seed (4-6, 6-3, 7-5).
Hontama, ranked No 109, defeated Indonesian wildcard Priska Nugroho (6-2, 6-1) in the previous round of the Monastir tournament.
