American Claire Liu won against qualifier Yeonwoo Ku 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the second round of the Korea Open in Seoul on Monday night.
Liu, ranked No 98, will play the winner of the match between wildcard Na-Lae Han and Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus, the No 7 seed, next.
