Ladies Open Lausanne: Cocciaretto into semi-finals

Elisabetta Cocciaretto won against Elina Avanesyan 7-5, 6-3 on Friday and will play the winner of the match between Hungarian Anna Bondar and Slovenian Tamara Zidansek in the next round

Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto, the second seed, advanced to the semi-finals of the Ladies Open Lausanne by winning against Russian Elina Avanesyan, the No 8 seed, 7-5, 6-3 on Friday.

Cocciaretto, ranked No 42, will face the winner of the match between Hungarian Anna Bondar and Slovenian Tamara Zidansek next.

Ahead of her victory, the 22-year-old Italian defeated Swiss wildcard Celine Naef (3-6, 7-6 (1), 6-2) and Argentinian Julia Riera (6-1, 3-6, 6-3).

Avanesyan, ranked No 68, benefited from the abandonment of Evgeniya Rodina (6-2, 2-0) and beat French qualifier Chloe Paquet (2-6, 7-5, 6-1) earlier in the tournament.
