L’Open 35 de Saint Malo: Osaka makes semi-finals

Naomi Osaka won against Elsa Jacquemot 6-3, 6-4 on Friday and will play Leolia Jeanjean in the next round

Japanese Naomi Osaka, the second seed, advanced to the semi-finals of the L’Open 35 de Saint Malo by winning against Frenchwoman Elsa Jacquemot 6-3, 6-4 on Friday.

Osaka used only 90 minutes to down Jacquemot. She did it by converting three break points and hitting as many aces.

Osaka, ranked No 55, will face Leolia Jeanjean next. The two have not faced each other on the WTA Tour thus far.

The Japanese defeated Croat Petra Marcinko (6-2, 6-1) and edged out Frenchwoman Diane Parry (2-6, 6-3, 6-4) ahead of her victory.

In the previous rounds, Jacquemot, ranked No 143, edged out Canadian Marina Stakusic (6-4, 4-6, 6-4) and beat Australian Olivia Gadecki, the No 6 seed (6-2, 7-5).
