Madrid Open: Garcia moves into third round

Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No 21 seed, advanced to the third round of the Madrid Open by winning against Chinese Xinyu Wang 6-1, 6-4 at the Caja Magica on Friday.

Garcia, ranked No 24, will play the winner of the match between Andorran wildcard Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva and Italian Jasmine Paolini, the No 12 seed, next.

Wang, ranked No 42, edged out Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova (5-7, 7-5, 6-4) in the previous round of the Madrid tournament.
