Russian Diana Shnaider, the No 13 seed, advanced to the fourth round of the Madrid Open by beating Latvian Anastasija Sevastova 6-0, 6-0 at the Caja Mágica on Saturday.

This was the first time that the Russian has won back-to-back matches on the tour since the Australian Open in January.

Shnaider, ranked No 13 and now being coached by former world No 1 Dinara Safina, will play the winner of the match between No 31 seed Linda Noskova and Pole Iga Swiatek, the second seed, next.

The 21-year-old Russian won against American Katie Volynets (6-1, 6-2) in the previous round of the tournament.

This was only the fourth time in the tournament’s history that a female player has won a match without losing a game.

Earlier in the week, Sevastova defeated Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (6-4, 7-5) and No 23 seed Jelena Ostapenko (7-6 (2), 6-2).
