Italian Martina Trevisan, the No 18 seed, moved into the round of 16 at the Madrid Open by winning against American Alycia Parks 7-6 (3), 6-1 at the Caja Magica on Sunday.
Trevisan, ranked No 20, will face the winner of the match between American Jessica Pegula, the No 3 seed, and Czech Marie Bouzkova, the No 29 seed, next.
Ahead of her victory, the Italian beat Canadian qualifier Eugenie Bouchard (6-2, 7-5).
Parks, ranked No 54, won against Slovak qualifier Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-2) and Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the No 15 seed (6-2, 7-6 (5)) in the previous rounds of the Madrid tournament.
