Russian lucky loser Varvara Gracheva advanced to the second round of the Mérida Open by beating German Tatjana Maria 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 at the Yucatan Country Club on Wednesday night.
Gracheva, ranked No 89, will face American Sloane Stephens, the second seed, next.
