American Ann Li moved into the second round of the Mérida Open by beating Spaniard Nuria Parrizas Diaz, the No 8 seed, 6-0, 6-4 at the Yucatan Country Club on Monday evening.
Li, ranked No 111, will face the winner of the match between Croat Antonia Ruzic and wildcard Laura Samson next.
