Swiss Jil Teichmann beat Russian qualifier Anastasia Tikhonova 6-1, 6-4 to advance to the second round of the Mérida Open at the Yucatan Country Club on Monday night.
Teichmann, ranked No 153, will play Australian Ajla Tomljanovic, the No 3 seed, next.
