Pegula continues domination of Collins in Miami

No 3 seed Jessica Pegula continues to hold the upper hand against her compatriot and rival Danielle Collins.

The third-seeded American improved to 4-0 lifetime against the world No 30, knocking off Collins 6-1, 7-6 to reach the last 16 of the Miami Open at the Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday.

Pegula, a semi-finalist last year at Miami, improves to 17-5 on the season and 8-3 lifetime at the Miami Open with a performance that saw her save both break points she faced as she dropped just 17 points on serve overall (won 28 of 36 first-serve points and 18 of 27 second-serve points).

It was the pair’s first meeting since 2021 and it drops Collins to 9-9 on the season – she has now won just one of nine total sets played against Pegula in the pair’s head-to-head.

Pegula, ranked No 3, will play Pole Magda Linette, the No 20 seed, next.

Ahead of her victory, Jessica Pegula beat Canadian qualifier Katherine Sebov (6-3, 6-1).

Collins, ranked No 30, won against Bulgarian lucky loser Viktoriya Tomova (7-6 (3), 6-2) in the previous round of the Miami tournament.
