Miami Open: Zheng takes out Samsonova, books spot in last 16

Chinese Qinwen Zheng, the No 23 seed, advanced to the last 16 of the Miami Open by beating Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the No 12 seed, 5-7, 7-6 (5), 6-3 at the Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday.

Zheng, ranked No 23, will play the winner of the match between Russian Anastasia Potapova, the No 27 seed, and American Coco Gauff, the No 6 seed, next.

In the previous round of the Miami tournament, the 20-year-old Chinese won against Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu (2-6, 6-1, 6-1).

Samsonova, ranked No 15, defeated Swiss qualifier Viktorija Golubic (6-1, 6-1) in the previous round of the Miami tournament.
