Monastir Open: Cornet downs Kudermetova to reach first final of 2022

Frenchwoman Alize Cornet, the No 3 seed, defeated Russian Veronika Kudermetova, the second seed, 6-4, 6-3 to reach the final of the Monastir Open at the Monastir Tennis Club on Saturday afternoon.
It’s the first final of the year for Cornet, ranked No 37, who will play the winner of the match between American Claire Liu and Belgian Elise Mertens, the No 5 seed, next.
The last of Cornet’s eight WTA titles came in Gstaad in 2018.
Ahead of her victory, the Frenchwoman won against Brazilian Laura Pigossi (7-6 (3), 6-0), Harriet Dart (6-3, 6-4) and Slovenian Tamara Zidansek (7-5, 7-6 (7)).
Kudermetova, ranked No 12, won against Varvara Gracheva (6-1, 6-0), Pole Magdalena Frech (6-3, 6-4) and Frenchwoman Diane Parry (6-4, 6-1) in the previous rounds.
