Mexican Renata Zarazua, the second seed, defeated Romanian Miriam Bulgaru, the No 6 seed, 6-2, 6-2 to reach the semi-finals of the Montevideo Open at the Carrasco Lawn Tennis Club.
Zarazua, ranked No 128, will face the winner of the match between No 5 seed Maria Lourdes Carle and No 4 seed Julia Riera next.
Earlier in the tournament, the Mexican won against American qualifier Haley Giavara (6-0, 7-5) and Romanian qualifier Gabriela Lee (6-0, 6-0).
