Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk moved into the last eight of the Mubadala Citi DC Open by winning against Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the second seed, 6-2, 6-3 on Thursday evening.
Kostyuk, ranked No 34, will face Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the No 8 seed, next.
Ahead of her victory, the 21-year-old Ukrainian edged out Canadian wildcard Bianca Andreescu (2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5)).
