Karolina Muchova will miss the WTA Finals due to a wrist injury.
She wrote on Instagram: “I am heartbroken to announce that I will miss my first WTA Finals in Cancun. Together with the team and doctors we tried everything till the last moments to resolve my wrist injury. Unfortunately, the time needed for the recovery is longer than we would’ve hoped for and therefore I had to make this unpleasant decision.”
The Czech has been struggling with a problem in her right wrist for some weeks now, which has forced her out of action since the US Open semi-finals.
Although she has not won a singles title this season, she reached a memorable final at Roland-Garros, where she lost to Iga Swiatek, and was also runner-up in Cincinnati, to Coco Gauff.
She qualified eighth in the race to Cancun, and her place is now set to be taken by first alternate Maria Sakkari.
