WTA National Bank Open: Sakkari eliminated by Pliskova

Karolina Pliskova defeated Maria Sakkari 6-1, 6-7 (9), 6-3 on Thursday night and will face the winner of the match between Canadian Bianca Andreescu and Chinese Qinwen Zheng in the next round

Czech Karolina Pliskova, the No 14 seed, advanced to the quarter-finals of the National Bank Open by winning against Greek Maria Sakkari, the No 3 seed, 6-1, 6-7 (9), 6-3 at the Aviva Centre in Toronto on Thursday night.

Pliskova, ranked No 14, will face the winner of the match between Canadian Bianca Andreescu and Chinese Qinwen Zheng next.

The Czech is back at an impressive level this week in Canada as she beat Barbora Krejcikova (6-3, 6-4) and American Amanda Anisimova (6-1, 6-1) earlier in the tournament.

Sakkari, ranked No 4, won against American Sloane Stephens (6-2, 4-6, 6-2).
