Romanian Alexandra Cadanțu-Ignatik advanced to the last 16 of the Open delle Puglie when Belgian Maryna Zanevska, the No 4 seed, retired on Tuesday.
Cadanțu-Ignatik, ranked No 178, led 6-0 when Zanevska, ranked No 97, pulled out on Tuesday.
The Romanian will face the winner of the match between Slovenian Dalila Jakupovic and Hungarian Reka Luca Jani next.
