Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu, the No 8 seed, reached the semi-finals of the Parma Ladies Open presented by Iren by edging out Hungarian Anna Bondar 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5) on Thursday afternoon.
Begu, ranked No 83, will face the winner of the match between Canadian Victoria Mboko and Chinese Xinyu Wang, the second seed, next.
The 34-year-old Romanian edged out Andorran Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva (6-7 (6), 6-1, 7-6 (3)) and beat Austrian qualifier Julia Grabher (1-6, 6-1, 6-2) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds, Bondar, ranked No 89, won against American Alycia Parks, the No 3 seed (6-2, 6-4) and Italian wildcard Camilla Rosatello (6-1, 6-3).
